School Employee Saver

The Challenge

Too few public school employees are ready for retirement. Most will need supplemental savings to augment their Social Security and Florida Retirement System benefits, but only 30% are actually doing so. Savings plans, like the 403(b) plan, help school employees save more and get retirement-ready. The Independent Benefits Council, made up of Florida’s leading education organizations — the Florida Education Association, the Florida Association of School Administrators, the Florida School Boards Association and the Florida Association of District School Superintendents — wanted to motivate Florida school employees to take action now to protect their retirement.

Our Approach

Help educators take retirement planning into their own hands. We partnered with Florida’s leading education associations to launch School Employee Saver — a statewide communications campaign to help Florida school employees learn about and start saving with 403(b) plans. We built a user-friendly, intuitive website — www.SchoolEmployeeSaver.com — to serve as a one-stop shop for impartial financial information about supplemental retirement savings.We directly reached school employees through Facebook photo contests where teachers won cash prizes to put toward their retirement savings. Video, digital and social media advertising, events, and partner engagement strategies combined in a virtual surround sound to promote the School Employee Saver campaign.

The Results

School Employee Saver generated an ongoing dialogue with thousands of public school employees about the value of long-term savings and connected them to easy-to-use resources to get started. The website has enjoyed sizeable traffic since launch, with thousands of target audience members visiting the site, using the interactive widgets and downloading the educational materials.
